Annie Ruth Pickering Campbell
December 19, 1939 – May 15, 2025

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 17,2025, at Collins Methodist Church for Annie Ruth Pickering Campbell, age 85, of Collins, Mississippi, who passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025.

The family will receive guests from 12:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm at Collins Methodist Church, 206 S. 2nd Street, Collins, MS. Rev. Rocky Miskelly, Rev. Timothy Beard, and Rev. Tim Atwood will officiate the service with special music provided by Annie Kay Rogers. She will be laid to rest in the Williamsburg Methodist Church Cemetery in Collins.

Pallbearers will be Larry Tripp, Jimmy Pickering, Ronnie Campbell, Mike Campbell, Neal Campbell, Bryan McDonald, Taylor Kimble, and Howard McGee.  Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Rogers, Donnie Anderson, Johnny Pope, John Pope, Mason Pope, Bob Faler, Lynn Smith, Billy Ray Pickering, Kenny Joe Pickering, Lawrence Pickering, and the members of the Disciples Sunday School Class.

Annie Ruth was born on December 19, 1939, in Seminary, Mississippi, she was the cherished daughter of James Corbet Pickering and Valma Crosby Pickering.

Annie Ruth was a proud graduate of Jones County Junior College and Mississippi Southern College (now the University of Southern Mississippi). Her professional life was marked by a deep commitment to public service and education. She worked for the United States Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration, taught Business Education at Collins High School, and later worked part-time for what is now Priority One Bank.

Her passion for community involvement was evident in her service on the Board of Directors for the Covington County Library System and as a member of the Covington County Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association.

Annie Ruth married her best friend and the love of her life, Herman Leon Campbell. Together, they shared 64 wonderful years and raised their beloved daughter, Leigh Ann Campbell. A lifelong Methodist, Annie Ruth was a faithful member of Collins Methodist Church for over 50 years. She served in numerous roles within the church, was a dedicated member of the Disciples Sunday School Class and the Methodist Women and joyfully participated in many church ministries and community outreach efforts.

Annie Ruth found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid bridge player who cherished time spent with her bridge club friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Leigh Ann; her parents, James Corbet Pickering and Valma Crosby Pickering; four brothers, Ray, Ross, Paul, and Leon Pickering; one sister, Ava Pickering Mooney; one niece, Paulette Pickering Shows; and one nephew, John Earl Pickering.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Herman Campbell; her nephew, Kenny Joe Pickering, who was raised alongside her; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and extended family members who will always remember her kindness, strength, and unwavering love.

Annie Ruth will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her faith, her service, and the love she so freely gave to family, friends, and community.
