Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the Thompson Family Cemetery in Seminary for Barbara Jane Thompson Loper, 71 of Collins, who passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at her residence.
Reverend Jerry McRaney will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Thompson Family Cemetery in Seminary. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020 for the immediate family only at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins. The funeral home will adhere to the state's protocol on social distancing and no more than ten family members in the funeral home at one time.
Pallbearers will be Billy Don Loper, Brian Lucas, John Purvis, Wayne Hynum, James Jarrell, and Jonathan Thompson. Honorary pallbearer will be Jarrod Davis.
Mrs. Loper was born of July 1, 1948 in Seminary, Mississippi to John Thomas Thompson Sr. and Hattie Mae Mooney Thompson. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Mrs. Loper retired from the Covington County School District after serving twelve years as a cafeteria worker at the Collins Elementary School. She was a member of the Methodist faith and attended the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Mrs. Loper was a sweet and humble lady and will be great missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Thompson Sr. and Hattie Mae Mooney Thompson; three brothers, Johnny Mac Thompson, Douglas Thompson, and John Thomas Thompson Jr.; a grandson, Justin Johnson Loper; and her mother-in-law, Irene Boutwell Loper.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-six years, Donald Ray Loper of Collins; two sons, Richard Loper, and his wife, Alisa and Russell Loper, all of Seminary; one daughter, Samantha Loper Lucas of Collins; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Johnson of Collins; one brother, Roger Dale Thompson of Seminary; five grandchildren, Billy Don Loper, Brian Lucas, Alyssa Lucas, Garrett Loper, and Blakestyn Lucas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
