Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Collins for Benjamin Franklin Hughes, 99 of Collins, who passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, Mississippi.
Brother Terry Phillips will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Susan Deen and Mrs. Darlene Thompson. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive guests from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church, 25 Mount Horeb Road Collins, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Michael Sloan, Ben Hughes, Kyle Sloan, Blaine Knight, Eric Johnson, and Eli Norris. Honorary pallbearers will be Boots Hughes, Ray Hughes, Charlie Bill Bonds, and Kaden Sloan.
Franklin began his construction career with W.E. Wolf Construction Company as a bulldozer operator. He ended his construction career with W.R. Fairchild Construction Company as a bridge construction supervisor. Later in life he worked for R.F. Truesdale Trucking Company as a truck driver and dispatcher. The last five years of his working career, he drove a truck for R.and R.Trucking. Franklin was an avid gardener and enjoyed rocking in his rocking chair. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and he will be dearly missed by all of his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Hughes; one daughter, Sharron Hughes; parents, W.H. Hughes and Vester Williams Hughes; one grandson, Denton Knight and one son-in-law, David Knight.
Survivors include his wife of nineteen years, Rachel Hughes of Laurel; two sons, Benny Hughes of Collins and Charles Hughes of Hendersonville, NC; one daughter, Sherry Hughes Knight of Seminary; step-son, David Dyess of Laurel; step-daughter, Sonya Everett (Douglas) of Laurel; grandson, Ben Hughes (Morgan) of Petal; granddaughter, Jeanie Knight Sloan (Michael) of Hattiesburg; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to be made in his name to Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
