Betty Flynt Speed

(September 24, 1938 – June 6, 2022)

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Betty Flynt Speed, 83 of Seminary, who passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 at her residence.

Reverend Hal Hatten will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Speed Cemetery in Seminary.  Specials music will be provided by Mr. Matthew Pickering and Mr. Bob Thames.  Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive guests from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3302 Highway 49, Collins, Mississippi, 39428.

Pallbearers will be Jim Hegwood, Jacob Hegwood, Earl Collins, and Joey Wambold.

Mrs. Speed was born on September 24, 1938 in Collins, Mississippi to Homer and Velma Ruth Collins Flynt.  She was a graduate of the Salem High School Class of 1957.  Mrs. Speed was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She was a member of the Willow Grove Baptist Church in Collins.

She was preceded in Death by her parents, Homer and Velma Ruth Collins Flynt; her husband, James Kelton Speed; one daughter, Teena Speed Hegwood; and a sister, Jane Flynt.

Survivors include one daughter, Angie Speed Reynolds, and her husband, Gaines of Seminary; one son, Bryce Speed of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; a son-in-law, Jim Hegwood of Seminary; one sister, Pat Flynt Adams of Madison; four grandchildren, Abby Reynolds, Ally Reynolds, Jacob Hegwood, and Hannah Hegwood Wambold, and her husband, Joey; three great-grandchildren, James Carter Hegwood, Gracie Hegwood, and Hazel Wambold; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
