Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Captain Hershel Sanford, 86 of Seminary, who passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Asbury House in Hattiesburg.
Brother Roy Craft, Brother Randy Sanford, and Brother Ronnie Sanford will officiate at the service with interment to follow in Hubert and Herbert Sanford Family Cemetery in Seminary with military rites at graveside.. Special music will be provided by Marell Sanford, Roy and Shirley Jean Craft, and Ronnie and Dianne Sanford. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.
Pallbearers will be Michael Sanford, Joey Sanford, Gavin Culpepper, Randall Lowery, Tim Sanford, and Tim Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Sanford, Treve Culpepper, Danny Culpepper, Tony Sanford, and Randolph Sanford.
Mr. Sanford was born on October 7, 1930 in Seminary, Mississippi. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Early in his working career, Mr. Sanford was a self-employed barber, and then went to work for Masonite Corporation and retired after ten years of service as a grader. After retiring, he drove a gas truck for Herring Gas Company until his health declined. Mr. Sanford was a devoted member of the Jesus Name Tabernacle Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Captain Shirley Sanford and Iona Mooney Sanford; and five brothers, Hubert Sanford, Herbert Sanford, Howard Sanford, Herman Sanford, and Leon Sanford.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Frances Culpepper Sanford of Seminary; three sons, Ronald Hershel Sanford, Richard Terry Sanford, and Roger Neil Sanford and his wife, Jill, all of Seminary; two sisters, Evonne Sanford Warren and Johnnie Vee Sanford Lowery, both of Seminary ; one brother, Hulon Sanford of Richland; six grandchildren, Adaira Graves, Kaleigh Sanford, Adam Sanford, Shella Kitchens, Captain James "C.J." Sanford, and Leighton Sanford; five great-grandchildren, Dallas Gatwood, Olivia Ford, Jenaleigh Sanford, Molly Graves, and Lukas Graves; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
