Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Christine Ulmer "Chris" Hemeter, 97 of Seminary, who passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the Merit Health-Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.
Reverend Sam Kelly will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Seminary Cemetery in Seminary. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Wynn Hemeter. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until service time on Sunday May 30, 2021 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.
Pallbearers will be Jason Hemeter, John Hemeter, Sam Kelly, Wayne Folkes, Randy Daniel, and Billy Brunt.
Mrs. Hemeter was born on July 5, 1923 in Laurel, Mississippi to William E. Ulmer and Indiana Clark Ulmer. She was the youngest of fourteen brothers and sisters. Mrs. Hemeter was a graduate of Jones County Junior College and attended Mississippi Southern College. She taught school at Seminary, Sanford, and Mount Olive during her working career. Following the death of her husband in 1993, Mrs. Hemeter was appointed to finish her husband's term as the Mayor of Seminary. She was a member of the Seminary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hemeter was also active in numerous civic organizations such as the Covington County Chamber of Commerce and the Seminary Garden Club until her health began to decline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence B. Hemeter; her parents, William E. Ulmer and Indiana Clark Ulmer; and thirteen siblings.
Survivors include two sons, William Lawrence Hemeter, and his wife, Colleen of Seminary, and David B. Hemeter, and his wife, Wynn of Picayune; four grandchildren, Jason Hemeter, John Hemeter, Barkley Hemeter, and Sydney Hemeter; three great-grandchildren, Azzie Hemeter, Abby Hemeter, and Rawls Hemeter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
