Obituary

Clyde Charles "Buddy" McRaney, Jr.
July 4,1938- February 12, 2024

Born on the Fourth of July, in Mount Olive, Mississippi, Buddy was the eldest child of Edna Lewis and Clyde Charles McRaney, Sr.  He graduated from Picayune Memorial High School and The University of Mississippi, earning a BBA and an LLB. At the time, Buddy was the youngest graduate Ole Miss Law School had seen. His memberships included Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity and Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.

Prior to returning to his home state of Mississippi, Buddy enjoyed a successful career in the oil and gas industry as a petroleum landman, living in New Orleans, Louisiana prior to being transferred to Houston, Texas. He met many lifelong friends along the way and truly treasured.
those relationships and the memories that ensued. To know Buddy was to know a great storyteller with a dry wit and tales aplenty. An avid reader with a keen interest in history, Buddy could often be found enjoying a biography or a work of historical nonfiction from his vast
collection of books. Some of his fondest memories were from his days at Ole Miss and his affiliation with the New Orleans Saints, during the earliest years of the franchise.

Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, Edna Lewis McRaney and Clyde Charles McRaney, Sr.; his sister, Ann McRaney Simpson and brother- in-law Butch Simpson.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan McRaney (John) Rutledge; one son, John Charles McRaney; two grandchildren, Madeline McKinney Rutledge and John Carl Rutledge, Jr.; one brother, Gerald (Delta) McRaney; his former wife, Sue Hemphill McRaney and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Buddy held deep gratitude for his friends and neighbors in Collins, particularly as he approached the end of his life. He valued every single kind gesture, whether it was accompanying him to a doctor's appointment, dropping off a delicious meal or simply stopping by his house to say hello.

"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?" -Clarence
