Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the McDonald Chapel Cemetery in Collins for Doris Jean Smith Massengale, 78 of Collins, who passed away on January 29, 2017 at the Covington County Hospital.
Reverend Dennis Campbell will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the McDonald Chapel Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by her grandchildren, Carolee Grissom and Trest Underwood. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Nicholas Thompson, Michael Thompson, T.J. Grissom, Mason Grissom, Lake Eiland, Cade Eiland, Fate Eiland, Levi Rogers, and Trest Underwood.
Mrs. Massengale was born on March 28, 1938 in Magee, Mississippi. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Massengale was the former secretary for the Collins Elementary School and was a dispatcher for the Collins Police Department before retiring. She was a member of the Ora Baptist Church in Collins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odus Smith and Gladys Saxon Smith Holloway; her husband, Billy Malcolm Massengale; and one brother, Ronnie Smith.
Survivors include four daughters, Cindy Massengale Thompson and her husband, Danny of Collins, Candy Massengale Grissom and her husband, Terry of Taylorsville, Connie Massengale Eiland of Collins, and Carrie Massengale Underwood and her husband, Terry of Seminary; one brother, Paul Smith of Pearl; eleven grandchildren, Nicholas Thompson (Leslie), Michael Thompson (Anna), T.J. Grissom (Christin), Mason Grissom (Hannah), Carolee Grissom, Lake Eiland (Camille), Cade Eiland (Haleigh), Fate Eiland, Levi Rogers (Shannon), Cali Underwood Culliver (Andrew), and Trest Underwood; seven great-grandchildren, Henrietta Joy Thompson, Lenora Kay Thompson, Cameron Mae Thompson, Theodore Daniel Thompson, Tucker James Grissom, Rhett Massengale Rogers, Elle Jackson Eiland; a long-time friend, Mary Lynn Ray of Collins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
