Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Edith Ilene Hudson Harris, 92 of Covington, Louisiana, who passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Avanti Senior Living in Covington, Louisiana.
Reverend Jerry McRaney will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Lone Star Cemetery in Collins. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.
Pallbearers will be Barry Smith, Marlon McRaney, Lamar McRaney, John Mike Hudson, and Dean Sierra.
Mrs. Harris was born on February 26, 1926 in Lone Star, Mississippi, and resided in Mandeville since 1986. She graduated Valedictorian from Lone Star High School. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Harris retired after numerous years of service as a kindergarten teacher at Memorial Baptist Church in Metairie, Louisiana and First Baptist Church in Mandeville, Louisiana. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mandeville, a shining example of the Greatest Generation and an elegant old-fashioned Southern Belle. Mrs. Harris loved quilting, cooking, flower decorating, and family photography. She was a kind and generous soul and will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Malcolm Ray Harris; and her parents, Calvin and Olive McRaney Hudson; and three brothers, John Hudson, Loye Hudson, and Jim Hudson.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Harris, and his wife, Angela of Cypress, Texas, and David Harris of Gulfport; one brother, Ed Hudson of Collins; one sister, Ruth Hudson Smith of Collins; two grandchildren, Misty Wilson, and Jansen Harris (Julia); and four great-grandchildren; Caleb Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Noah Harris, and Lili Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
