A strong work ethic was E.P. 's life mission. He worked on the family farm until he became old enough to get a job off the farm. E.P. worked in his younger years for Fairchild Construction traveling as a pile driver on the bridge construction crew. He would later work at F.S. Prestess, where he helped to clear the land and set up the production line. He retired from F.S. Prestress at 75.
E.P. was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing with his friends and family, hunting with his grandchildren and sons-in-law, and gardening vegetables to share with everyone. He loved driving his tractor, bushhogging, clearing the fire lanes of his property, sitting on the dock feeding the fish at his pond, and roasting hot dogs over a fire in the backyard with his grandchildren. Another outdoor activity he loved was hosting fish frys and shrimp boils.
E.P.'s first priority in life was God and sharing about his Savior Jesus. His next priority was his family. He loved each one and loved to celebrate special events. He watched many baptisms, ballgames, cheerleading events, dance reviews, and anything his children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren were involved in. He loved his friends and loved to help others every day.
He was a faithful member of Rawls Springs Baptist Church for 62 years. He served as a deacon and taught a Men's Sunday School class. Through those years He would serve as Deacon Chairman, Building and Grounds Chairman, Sunday School Director, and on various other committees. He loved Jesus, his church, and his church family.
E.P. was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Poe and Lucy Ann Quick; brother, Homer Quick; 2 sisters, Virginia Lott and Ida Lou Boykin; and a son-in-law, James Woods.
Left to cherish his memory and wonderful life are his 2 daughters, Pamela Shoemake (Bobby) of Seminary, Mississippi, and Jo Ann Woods of Carriere, Mississippi; 5 grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Kimberly Voskeritchian (Bryan), Edgar Woods (Chastity), Stuart Shoemake (Seagie), Ryan Woods (Renee), and Natalie Guidry (Jeremy); 11 greatgrandchildren whom he loved, cherished, and spoiled, Connor Peale, Robyn Woods, Austin Woods, Josiah Shoemake, Ava Guidry, Annabelle Guidry, Samuel Shoemake, Aubree Voskeritchian, Brycen Voskeritchian, Levi Shoemake, and Mary Gwen Shoemake; and many extended family members and friends.
