Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Collins United Methodist Church for Ercell Watts Pickering, 87 of Collins, who passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Covington County Hospital in Collins.
Reverend Jimmy Harrison, Reverend David Shumaker, and Reverend Timothy Beard will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Connie King, Mr. Howard McGee, and Mr. James Arrington Goff. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 and from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tal Pickering, Eric Napier, Larry Tripp, Johnny Pope, Sammy Napier, Travis Kelly, and Tommy Bott Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Followers Sunday School Class and the Collins Garden Club.
Mrs. Pickering was born on September 23, 1929 in Seminary, Mississippi. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Mrs. Pickering was the Secretary and Treasurer of James E. Pickering and Son, LLC. She was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church where she was active in the Follower's Sunday School Class and the Collins United Methodist Women. Mrs. Pickering was also a member of the Collins Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Floy Speed Watts; and one sister, Doris Watts Frazier.
Survivors include her husband of seventy years, James E. Pickering of Collins; one son, and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Dianne Talley Pickering; two grandchildren, Tal and Tracy Pickering of Collins, and Molly and Eric Napier of Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Macie Pickering, Haydyn Pickering, Garrett Robinson, Ejay Napier, and Gracey Napier; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Methodist Children's Home of Mississippi, P.O. Box 606, Clinton, Mississippi 39060.
