A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Dwelling Place Church in Collins for Gene Ross Williams, 69 of Seminary, who passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Reverend Wesley Kirkley will officiate at the services. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Andrea Kirkley. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Dwelling Place Church, 252 Cook-McDonald Road, Collins, Mississippi, 39428.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of the children he had coached throughout the years.
Ross was born on May 22, 1951 in Carthage, Mississippi to Lynwood Williams Sr. and Helen Mae McClure Williams. He was a graduate of the Collins High School Class of 1969. Ross worked in the construction industry for numerous years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Ross was a member of the Baptist faith and attended the Dwelling Place Church.
Ross was a loving husband, father, paw-paw, and brother. He coached and mentored children for many years through football, baseball, and softball programs in the Pine Belt and statewide areas. Ross enjoyed spending time with his family, just sitting around and having fun. His grandchildren loved their paw-paw and thought he hung the moon. Ross will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynwood Williams, Sr. and Helen Mae McClure Williams; his sister, Helen Frances Williams Speed; and two brothers, John Wayne Williams and Richard "Ricky" Williams.
Survivors include his wife of forty-years, Gayle Williams of Seminary; five children, Cassie Williams (Cody Robertson), Christy Williams, and Clint Williams (Kalie), all of Collins, and Dwayne Williams of Picayune, and Bubba Williams of Petal; nine grandchildren, Abby Williams Howard, Wyatt Robertson, Rhett Williams, Cameron Williams, Casey Williams, Skyla Williams, C.J. Williams, Maycie Williams, and Laiya Williams; one brother, Lynwood Williams Jr. (Esther) of Collins; one brother-in-law, Wilford Speed, Sr. of Collins; two sisters-in-law, Tobie Williams of Runnelstown, and Vickie Lynn Williams of Seminary; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
