Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Olive for Gloria Chain Whatley, 88 of Mount Olive, who passed away On Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Arrington Living Center in Collins.
Reverend Dewitt Bain and Reverend Larry Dennis Jr. will officiate at the services with interment at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Hollywood Cemetery, 900 Pennsylvania Avenue, McComb, Mississippi, 39648. Special music will be provided by Mr. Randy Hand and Mr. Jordan Hand. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 795 Highway 532, Mount Olive, Mississippi, 39428.
Her pallbearers will be Jeff Yelverton, David Chain, Dwayne Chain, Jordan Hand, Jamie Eaves, and Greg Toney.
Mrs. Whatley was born on March 20, 1938, in Magee, Mississippi, to Gabe and Elma Clark Chain. She was a graduate of Mount Olive High School. Mrs. Whatley started her working career as a telephone operator for Bell South Telephone Company for ten years. She then went to work as the cafeteria manager for the Covington County School District for twenty years until her retirement. Mrs. Whatley was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Olive. She was enjoyed reading, traveling, and going to gospel sings. Mrs. Whatley was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabe and Elma Clark Chain; her husband, Albert M. Whatley; one infant son, Michael Whatley; and her brother, Leonard Chain.
Survivors include one son, Mitchell Whatley, and his wife, Rose of Mount Olive; one daughter Sherrie Whatley Hand, and her husband, Randy of Mount Olive; three grandchildren, Jordan Hand, and his wife, Heather, Kelsey Valladares, and her husband, Diego, and Maegan Eaves, and her husband, Jamie; five great-grandchildren, Christian Bryant, River Stafford, Maci Stafford, Lakin Stafford, and Stetson Hand; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in her memory to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 795 Highway 532 in Mount Olive, Mississippi, 39119.
The family wants to extend their thanks and love to Arrington Living Center, and Legacy Hospice, for the excellent care that was given to Mrs. Whatley.
