Obituary

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Calhoun Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins for Herbert Albert Harper Jr., 80 of Collins, who passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall.

Reverend Daryl Coats will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Calhoun Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins.  Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.  Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren, Caleb Harper, Abigail Harper, Eli Harper, Ayden Blakeney, Asher Blakeney, Abram Blakeney, Austyn Blakeney, Jaelyn Leitaker, and Bryce Odom.

Mr. Harper was born on March 17, 1941 in Wetumpka, Alabama to Herbert Albert Harper Sr, and Mabel Grace Cooley Harper.  He received a Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Mr. Harper and his wife, Judith, were the owners and operators of the J. & H. Harper Grocery in downtown Hot Coffee for over thirty years.  He was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Albert Harper Sr. and Mabel Grace Cooley Harper; and his granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Harper.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-one years, Judith Adelle Knight Harper of Collins; three sons, Eric Craig Harper, and his wife, Pamela of Pearl; David Keith Harper, and his wife, Kimberly of Taylorsville, and Kevin Bert Harper of Collins; his aunt, Minnie Cooley Stewart of Stonewall; five grandchildren, Justin Harper, Jordan Harper Martin, Amanda Harper Blakeney, Koedy Harper, and Tyler Harper; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb Harper, Abigail Harper, Eli Harper, Ayden Blakeney, Asher Blakeney, Abram Blakeney, Austyn Blakeney, Jaelyn Leitaker, and Bryce Odom; and a host of other family members and friends.
