Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Herschal "Po-Boy" Hicks, 92 of Seminary, who passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at his home in Seminary, Mississippi.
Dr. Barry Armstrong and Reverend Glenn Shoemake will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Union South Baptist Church Cemetery in Seminary, Mississippi with military rites at graveside. Special music will be provided by Mr. Jeremy Johnson. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.
Pallbearers will be Frank Cooley, Scott Hicks, Roger Gingrich, Bobby Brooks, Frank "Boots" Suchy, and Kent McKenzie.
Mr. Hicks, also known as Po-Boy, was born on April 19, 1928, in Seminary, Mississippi. He was the owner and operator of Po-Boys Restaurant and Truck Stop and Po-Boys Wrecker Service for numerous years. He also worked as an over the road truck driver and heavy equipment operator during his working career. Mr. Hicks proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War where he received the National Defense Medal. He was a member of the Union South Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Elma Sanford Hicks and Beatrice Kidd Hicks; and his parents, Thomas Franklin Hicks and Ruth Sanford Byrd.
Survivors include four children, Tammy Hicks of Florida, Harold Hicks and his wife, Sandra of Memphis, Tennessee, Renee Turner and her husband, James of Foxworth, and Billy Styron of Ellisville; eight grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Hicks Cooley of Seminary; two nieces, Connie McLemore and Doris Woods, both of Seminary; two nephews, Bill Cooley and Frank Cooley, both of Seminary; special friends, Patricia and Roger Gingrich and their daughter, Markell Gingrich Carter, and her family, all of Seminary; and a host of other family members and friends.
