Hershel Ray Dilmore
(June 9, 1933 – February 9, 2023)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Hershel Ray Dilmore, 89, of Mount Olive, who passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at his residence.
Bro. Jon Neal will officiate the services with interment to follow in the Ora Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by Crystal Neal. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3302 Hwy 49, Collins, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
Mr. Hershel was a great storyteller who could elaborate for days on any given subject. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. A true Veteran, he strongly believed in and used the Veteran's Affairs system. He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later served in the Air Force Reserves, Army Reserves, and the Air National Guard for a total of 43 years of military service. Mr. Hershel also worked for 28 years with the Masonite Corporation in Laurel, where he operated a forklift. During his retired years, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved cats at his home in Mount Olive.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Fay Atwood Dilmore; daughter, Carolyn Gavisk; parents, Clarence and Eva Bishop Dilmore; brothers, Evon "Shorty" Dilmore, Pat Dilmore and Billy Don Dilmore; sisters, Buna V. Butler, Martha Parker, and Leah Mae Smith; and a grandson, Brandon Dilmore.
Survivors include his sons, David Dilmore (Cindy) of Mount Olive, MS, Tommy Dilmore (Michelle) of Collins, MS and James Dilmore (Ma-Leonora) of Mount Olive, MS; brother, Robert Dilmore of TX; sister, Edna Barrett of Utica, MS; son-in-law, Donald Gavisk of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Brian Bates (Amy), Danielle Dismukes, Nick Youngblood, Matthew Dilmore, Cortnee Crumpton, Scott Dilmore (Brandy), Tyler Dilmore (Brittany), Logan Dilmore (Courtney), Kimberly Baker (Jacob), Maddie Dilmore, Marie Frangelico Matbagon; twenty great-grandchildren; a good neighbor, Tommy Kelly (Brenda); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
