Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Hershel Lavelle Shoemake, 82 of Seminary, who passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at his residence in Seminary.

Dr. Tim Hubbard, Reverend Mike Davis, and Reverend Glenn Shoemake will officiate at the services with military rites to follow.  Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3302 Highway 49, Collins, MS 39428.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Ray Pickering, John Corbit Pickering, Mackie Howard Moulds, Charles McPhail, Brian Watts, Jason Watts, and Don Williams.

Mr. Shoemake was born on May 16, 1939 in Collins, Mississippi to Lavelle and Velma Walters Shoemake.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  Mr. Shoemake retired after numerous years of service as a restaurant owner and operator in the food service industry.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Mr. Shoemake was a member of the Grace Outreach Church in Seminary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavelle and Velma Walters Shoemake; his wife of fifty-four years, Dorothy Ann Hill Shoemake; one brothers, Alexander Shoemake; and two sisters, Lois Shoemake and Norfleet Jane Shoemake Chamberlain.

Survivors include his daughters, Dr. Shelley Marie Shoemake of Seminary; two grandsons, Sage Edward Rials and Asher David Lee Rials, both of Seminary; one brother, L.V. (Bennett) Shoemake, and his wife Robbie of Collins; two sisters, Patricia Shoemake Raulston of Hattiesburg and Edwina Shoemake Graham of Brandon; two brothers-in-law, David Roberts of Bruce, and Frank Watts of Laurel; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Jalissa Quinn and Martha Modisette for the wonderful care given to Mr. Hershel during the last few years.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the college funds for his grandsons, Sage and Asher or to the Covington County Gideons, P.O. Box 1562, Collins, MS. 39428
