Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday May 16, 2024, in the chapel of the Charter Funeral Home in Calera, Alabama for James H. Brown, 94 of Alabaster, Alabama, who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his own home on Sunday, May 12, 2024. He will also have a local service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.
Reverend West Garner will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Cold Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Pauline Lightsey. Charter Funeral Home in Calera, Alabama, and Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins, Mississippi will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive guests from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Charter Funeral Home in Calera, Alabama, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3202 Highway 49, Collins, Mississippi, 39428.
The pallbearers will be his nephews, Michael Lightsey, Eric Lightsey, Darrell Lightsey, Jonathan Clark. Wade Clark, and Adam Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris McDaniel and Todd Dupre'.
Mr. Brown, affectional known as "Pappy or Brown", was born on December 25, 1929, to his parents, Tollie Fredrick, and Crystal Snyder Brown. He has been a resident of Alabaster Alabama for fifty-one years and was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. James enjoyed fishing, photography (especially Cahaba Lillies), watching the Atlanta Braves and NASCAR. He loved to watch all Alabama sports, especially football, women's softball, and gymnastics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tollie Fredrick, and Crystal Snyder Brown; his loving wife, Damie Sue Lightsey Brown; three brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include his two sons, Wyman Brown, and Greg Brown (Debbie); one grandson, Justin Brown (Megan); one great-grandson, Colton; a brother-in-law, George "Peanut" Lightsey (Pauline); three sisters-in-law, Chellie Clark, Floy Bustin, and Mae King; and numerous nieces and nephews.
