James Earl
Clark, Sr.
October 28, 1921 – July 9, 2018
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Evergreen Baptist Church for James Earl Clark, Sr., 96 of Seminary, who passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins. He was surrounded by his family and a host of dear friends as he left his earthly body. He is now at perfect peace.
Brother Chad Cummins and Brother Glenn Shoemake will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites at graveside. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Elaine Lowery and Mr. Rob Clark. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Seminary.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joe Parker, Garrett Parker, Billy Parker, Colton Kendrick, Wesley Clark, James Clark, III, and Seth Parker.
Earl was a native and lifelong resident of Seminary, Mississippi. He was proud to be from Seminary and Covington County and genuinely loved its people. He was faithful to the Lord, faithful to his country, faithful to his church, and faithful to his family. He was a loving presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He deeply loved and cared about all of his family throughout his life.
Earl was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church and a humble servant of the Lord. He served as a deacon for over seven decades and also as a former church treasurer.
Earl worked at Sanderson Farms and Willow Grove Water Association. He was a farmer and enjoyed planting a garden and sharing his bounty with his friends and neighbors. Upon his retirement he drove a school bus for the Covington County School District. It was while driving the school bus that he enjoyed spending time with the school children on his route.
He was a member of the Covington County Cattleman's Association and served on the Seminary Board of Education. A United States Army veteran, Earl proudly served his country during World War II in Germany and Austria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur Clark and Queen Victoria Williams Clark; his wife of sixty three years, Eva Blanche Sellers Clark; one daughter, Jean Gooch Coulter; five brothers, Earnest Clark, C.G. Clark, Sam Clark, W.C. Clark, and Steve Clark; one sister, Helen Broome; and two great-grandsons, Cade Parker, and T.J. Parker.
Survivors include one son, James Earl Clark, Jr. and his wife, Zetta of Seminary; two daughters, Sue Clark Parker, and her husband, Willie of Seminary, and Dean Clark Maddox, and her husband, Jerry of New Boston, Texas; three sisters, Rachel Browning of Clinton, Elaine Lowery of Seminary, and Doris Shellabarger, and her husband, Dave of Flower Mound, Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Covington County Gideons, P.O. Box 1562, Collins, Mississippi, 39428.
The family wishes to thank the Covington County Hospital Swingbed Department, the Mississippi State Veterans Home, Home Care Hospice, and Dr. Billy Mack Pickering for the love and care shown to the father during his illness.
