James Fortenberry

(September 18, 1952 – August 22, 2023)

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for James Fortenberry, 70, of Seminary, who passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at his home.

Brother Antoine Young will officiate the service with interment to follow in the Bullock Cemetery in Seminary. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023, and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3202 Hwy 49, Collins, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Fortenberry, Tyler Fortenberry, Zachary Fortenberry, Peyton Jones, Hayden Jones, and Landon Pittman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Back and Samuel Back.

Mr. James was born September 18, 1952, in Tylertown, Mississippi, to Fred and Hilda Fortenberry. He worked for 12 years as a truck driver for various companies and loved to share stories of his adventures on the road. He is lovingly remembered for his strong-willed, independent personality and his passion for riding his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hilda McKenzie Fortenberry; brothers, Keith Fortenberry, Greg Fortenberry; and a sister, Jenny Terrell.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Diane Jones Fortenberry of Seminary; children, James Christopher Fortenberry (Stacy) of Collins, Christina Jones of Seminary, Kevin Scott Fortenberry (Candice) of Hattiesburg, and Amanda Jones of Seminary; brother, Mike Fortenberry of Columbia; grandchildren, Christopher Fortenberry, Kaitlyn Wheeler (Zaquan), Tyler Fortenberry, Zachary Fortenberry, Landon Pittman, Gabriell Copelan, Peyton Jones, Haley Fortenberry, Jordan Back, Hanna Jones, Samuel Back, Hayden Jones, and Bryson Jones; great-grandchildren, Dracen Fortenberry, Zaiden Fortenberry, Carlynn Hollingsworth, Kashton Wheeler, Kai Pittman, and the expected Charlotte Fortenberry.
