Jean Magee, known as "Nana" by most, lived her life with the hope of what is now her reality as her driving force. She has attained what she once only looked forward to. She was a gracious, yet powerful presence that will be so missed. Those who survive her can only envy what she has now: an existence not only free from the pain and disappointment of this world, but most of all an existence living in the presence of her Savior, Lord, and friend. As much as she loved her family - and she loved them mightily - she loved her God more. She was uncompromising in her faith, yet gentle and forgiving to others. She was an amazing teacher and mentor of God's Word and precepts, and all who were fortunate enough to learn from her were better for it. Her life was like a tree whose roots were firmly planted by springs of water: yielding its fruit in due season with leaves that did not wither. Her mind was set with the things of the Spirit, and now she is able to stand in the assembly of the righteous.
Jean's absence will be palpably felt. Those who loved her will have to re-learn how to occupy this world without her. But, like the gentle reach of nature's hands over her earthly home, her family too will learn how to stretch their fingertips over this raw newness felt deeply within. Jean's memory will continue to heal and lead broken hearts to the feet of Jesus. Her legacy goes beyond the accolades of this world: it extends to the golden gates of Heaven.
Jean entered each day ready to embrace the fullness and richness of each moment. She sang constant praises of how God had blessed her. It was a universal wish by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to end up like their Nana – a compliment of such grandiose that it was met humbly and demurely by Jean.
Jean radically and completely changed so many lives. There was no knowing her without knowing peace, no learning from her without feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit. She was unique: a precious gem who gave hugs that made the inundation of time stop, and that's because she knew. Jean knew how to bask in the glow of the moment; she knew how to spend each moment like it may be her last.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Michael Magee; her parents, Lucian B. and Wilmoth Victoria Lowery Faler; four brothers, Delton Faler, L.B. Faler, Billy Jack Faler and Lowery Faler; one sister, Delmarie Faler Beavers; a grandson, Kenneth Andrew Seymour; and a granddaughter, Theresa Jean Keys.
Survivors include one son, Joey Magee, and his wife, Susan of Collins; three daughters, Jena Magee Seymour of Collins, Laurie Magee Sumrall, and her husband, Reggie of Stringer, and Vicki Magee Mooney, and her husband, Bobby Wayne of Collins; one brother, Bob Faler, and his wife, Jackie of Collins; two sisters, Lillie Mae Faler Campbell of Helena, Alabama, and Vicki Lou Faler Culpepper of Gretna, Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Pat Faler of Hattiesburg; nine grandchildren, Alisa Keys Smith (Chad), Stephen Jones (Abby), Luke Seymour (Karlie), Joseph Seymour (Meghan), Christy Magee Kirkley (Paul), Taylor Magee Johnson (Daily), Zachary Magee, Gabby Mooney Watson (Jeff), and Brooklyn Mooney; eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Jacob's Well Recovery Center, 45 Buford Lane, Poplarville, Mississippi, 39470, or to The Damascus Road Recovery Center for Men, 2274 Highway 53, Poplarville, Mississippi, 39470.
