Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Billy M. King Funeral Home in Collins for Jerry Matthew Dossett, 77 of Collins, who passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins.
Reverend Jerry T. Hood will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Seminary with military rites at graveside. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Billy M. King Funeral Home in Collins.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Dossett, Tom Dossett, Chris Dossett, Derwin Dossett, Patrick Dennis, and Alexis Holder.
Jerry was born on April 26, 1943 in Sanford, Mississippi to Thomas Lewis Dossett and Chellie Lott Dossett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served two years (1965-1966) in Vietnam. He received the award of the Purple Heart in January 1966 for wounds received in battle. Jerry was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism while serving in Vietnam during August 1966. This award stated, "Specialist Dossett's actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1 st Infantry Division and the United States Army.
After his service to his country, Jerry worked as an electrician in the groundbreaking years of Disney World in Orlando, Florida. When his dad died in 1973, Jerry returned home to care for his mother, Chellie. Jerry spent his remaining years in Covington County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lewis Dossett and Chellie Lott Dossett, and his brother, Harold Thomas Dossett.
Survivors include his brother, Kenneth Louis Dossett, and his wife, Gail of Senatobia, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family member.
