Obituary

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Bryant Cemetery in Seminary for John Thomas Lowery, 83 of Madison, who passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at his residence.

Brother Joe Lott , Brother Everett Broome, Brother Wayne Woolwine, and Brother Steven Webb will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Bryant Cemetery in Seminary.  Special music will be provided by Mrs. Elaine Lowery.  Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Will Morgan, Lane Morgan, Sam Thomas McInnis, John Lowery, Beau Lowery, and Tony Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Berry, Justin Davis, Ryan Primeau, Todd Lowery, John Woolwine, Carl Sanford, and Mark Norris.

Thomas was born on April 19, 1937 to Mack and Rosa Lowery. Thomas grew up in Sanford, MS, and attended Sanford Missionary Baptist Church all his life. This church, and church family, was very special to him and he served as a long-time deacon and adult Sunday School teacher. He lived most of his adult life in Mendenhall, MS where he owned and managed Lowery-Sullivan Motors and had the Buick, Pontiac, GMC and Chevrolet franchises.  He was a skilled gardener and landscape expert and he and Ann had a Mendenhall "Yard of the Month" sign in their yard many, many times.  After retiring from the automobile industry, he served as Mendenhall city alderman.  He was an avid University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle and attended and enjoyed many USM sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Willie Lowery and Rosa Davis Lowery; and nine siblings.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Ann Matheny Lowery, four   children, Nina Lowery Morgan, Robbin Lowery Osiek (Kyle), Treva Lowery McInnis (Elmer), and Tom Lowery (Lori); eight grandchildren,  Will Morgan, Lane Morgan, Clare Davis (Justin), Carmen Elise (Ryan), Sam Thomas McInnis, John Lowery, Giglia Lowery, and Ben Berry; three great-grandchildren, Kylie Davis, Brink Davis, and Kellen Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
