Sam, as most people knew him, was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed watching westerns and telling his life's story to all who would listen. Sam was a hard worker who worked until the age of seventy-five. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy and the Army National Guard (623rd Unit) with a combined total of twenty-four years. He also served the state of Mississippi, working with MDOT for seventeen years while bridging over to Camp Shelby where he worked as a E6 diesel mechanic for fifteen years, retiring with a combined total of thirty-two years. One of his proudest accomplishments was being deployed to Desert Storm as a Staff Sargent with the 623rd Unit out of Collins. Deciding retirement was not for him, he went back to work for Wolverton Engineering as a road and bridge inspector for twenty-years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-five years Katie Bynum Vineyard; and second wife of twenty years, Ada Mae Rawls Vineyard, one daughter, Donna Creel Culpepper; parents Loren Neal Vineyard, Sr. and Myra Louise McLaurin Vineyard; one brother, William Orlean Vineyard and one grandson, Christopher Creel.
Survivors include his daughter, Samantha Vineyard Williamson, of Collins, sons Kevin Vineyard (Liz) of Collins, Michael Creel of Collins, Donald Creel of Magee and James Creel of Jackson, and step-son Dan Addison of Purvis, six grandchildren, Zachary Williamson (Hayley) of Petal; Hilary Vineyard (Matt) of Collins and Summer Williamson (Dalton) of Collins, Hayley Vineyard of Collins, Cecily Amacker(Chris) of Purvis, and Ayden Addison, six great-grandchildren, Anderson Williamson, Katie Post, Lane Creel, Layton Creel, Racelyn Amacker, and Kasyn Amacker, and a host of other family members.
