Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for L.V. "Bennett" Shoemake, 96 of Collins, who passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at his residence.
Reverend Glenn Shoemake and Reverend Mike Davis will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery in Seminary with military rites at graveside. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Linda Kiser, Mrs. Nikki Fairley, and Mr. Bob Thames. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, and from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3202 Highway 49, Collins, MS.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons, Robert Shoemake, Peter Shoemake, Jotham Shoemake, Andrew Shoemake, Mark McPhail, Chris McPhail, Ethan McPhail, and Bennett McPhail. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Brooks, Gary Sanford, and Bobby White.
Mr. Shoemake was born on January 21, 1928, in Collins, Mississippi to Harvey Lavalle Shoemake and Velma Walters Shoemake. He was the retired owner and operator of The Junction Service Station and the Lakeview Fish Camp. Mr. Shoemake proudly served his country in the United States Army, and the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the Grace Outreach Church in Seminary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Lavelle Shoemake ad Velma Walters Shoemake; one daughter, Barbara Rene` Shoemake; two brothers, Hershel Lavelle Shoemake and Alex Arthur Shoemake; four sisters, Wardna Mae Shoemake, Lou Ethel Shoemake, Jane Norfleet Chamberlain, and Patricia Shoemake Raulston; and two grandsons, Adam Christian Ford and Stephen Philip Shoemake.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-six years, Robbie Lou Lott Shoemake of Collins; one son, Reverend Glenn Shoemake, and his wife, Peggy of Collins; one daughter, Brenda Shoemake McPhail, and her husband, Charles of Collins; a foster son, Ivis Lenin Diaz Corrales, and his wife, Vanessa of Honduras; one sister, Edwina Shoemake Graham of Brandon; four grandchildren, Robert Shoemake (April King), Lydia Shoemake, Mark McPhail (Jena), and Chris McPhail (Whitney); and nine great-grandchildren, Peter Shoemake, Jotham Shoemake, Andrew Shoemake, Bailey McPhail, Presley McPhail Lowery (Kerry), Ethan McPhail, Bennett McPhail, Weiland McPhail, and Raiden Gooch; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
