Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church for Madeline "Aunt Matt" Hughes, 95 of Collins who passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Magnolia Place in Sumrall.
Reverend Jim Roberson and Mr. Clay Thames will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery. Special music will be provided by Darlene Thompson, Madelyn Easterling, and Marsha Harper. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Ray Hughes, Ben Hughes, Doug Baker, Harry Hughes, John Milton Hughes, and Denton Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Hughes, Dale Gingrich, Gale Gingrich, Ralph Bean, Boots Hughes, Clay Thames, Grant Thames, Matthew McCartney, Andrew McCartney, Danny Magee, Kyle Sloan, Michael Sloan, Austin Sloan, Douglas Harper, and Guy Easterling.
Ms. Hughes was born on October 2, 1920 in Seminary, Mississippi. She retired after thirty five years of service as a registered nurse. Ms. Hughes started her career out working in Dr. Culpepper's office in Hattiesburg as his office and surgical nurse and the retired from the Covington County Hospital as the surgical and emergency department manager. She was a member of the Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harrison Hughes and Vester Williams Hughes; two sisters, Ethel Merle Magee and her husband, C.D. and Juanita Etheridge and her husband, Burt; and four brothers, W.M. Hughes and his wife, Levie, Johnny Hughes and his wife, Hazel, George Hughes, and his wife, Hettie, and Guycell Hughes, and his wife, Alma.
Survivors include one brother, Franklin Hughes and his wife, Rachel of Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
