Max Mitchell

(July 3, 1929 – August 8, 2020)

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Willow Grove Baptist Church in Collins for Mr. Max Mitchell, 91 of Collins, who passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Covington County Hospital in Collins.

Reverend Jimmy Hood and Reverend Hal Hatten will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Willow Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins.  Special music will be provided by Mrs. Julia Rae Graham Harbor and Mr. Bob Thames.  Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Willow Grove Baptist Church in Collins.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Willow Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Mitchell was born on July 3, 1929 in Collins, Mississippi to Sherman Johnston Mitchell and Gertrude Burkhalter Mitchell.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.  Mr. Mitchell was self-employed.  He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War.  He was a member of the Willow Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Johnston Mitchell and Gertrude Burkhalter Mitchell; his wife, Marie High Mitchell; three siblings, Vondee Mitchell Ethridge, Doris Mitchell Hutto, and John Wayne Mitchell, and one sister-in-law, Frances High Welch.

Survivors include his wife of eighteen plus years, Kathleen Ishee Ferguson Mitchell of Collins; four children, Maxine Mitchell Ward, and her husband, Ronald , Marilyn Annette Mitchell Bingham, and her husband Sam, Pattye Lynn Mitchell Graham, and her husband, Mark, and Larry Dean Mitchell, all of Collins; five grandchildren, Jonathan Graham (Mario Ramos), Randi Ward Mejia (Hairo), Max Keenan Bingham, William Douglas Mitchell (Emily), and Connor Bingham; two great-granddaughters, Natalie Liliana Mejia and Lucy Noel Mejia; one sister, Lois Laird Dickens, and her husband, W.M. of Hattiesburg; two sisters-in-law, Annie High Mitchell of Mendenhall, and  Sarah Nell Mitchell of Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
