Melinda Jane Lucas

(February 25, 1962 – January 26, 2023)

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Melinda Jane Lucas, 60, of Collins, who passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Brother Glenn Shoemake will officiate the services with interment to follow in the Lucas and Jones Cemetery in Collins. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3202 Hwy 49, Collins, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Marty Lucas, Robert Jones, Mitchell Jones, Blake Hayes, Wayne Carter, and Mason Lucas.

Ms. Lucas was born on February 25, 1962, in Louisiana, to James and Barbara Jones. She later moved to Mississippi and attended Seminary High School. She worked as for many years as a Certified Nurse's Assistant at various nursing homes and hospitals in the Collins area. Ms. Lucas is affectionately remembered for her passion for her family, her animals, and dyeing her hair bright colors. Her favorite color of all was pink, as anything pink would catch her eye.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Taylor Jones; brothers, Dennis Jones and Patrick Jones; and a sister, Irene Edwards.

Survivors include her husband, Lavoid Jones; children, Rachel Lucas, Mitchell Lucas, Joyce Lucas, Mason Lucas, and Marty Lucas, all of Collins; mother, Barbara Ann Jacob Jones; brothers, Michael Jones, Robert Jones, James "Bubba" Jones and Mitchell Jones; sisters, Dianne Fortenberry and Susan Warren (Daniel); 43 nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
