Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home for Phillip Ronald Varnell, 69 of Collins, who passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Covington County Hospital.

Reverend Chad Cummins and Mrs. Christy Moffett will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Collins City Cemetery. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Anita Humphrey and Mr. Bob Thames. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins.

Pallbearers will be Casey Patterson, Robert Copeland, Billy Ryan, James Earl Clark, David Humphrey, and Bandy Grace.

Mr. Varnell was born on October 20, 1947 in Matador, Texas. He retired from Haliburton Logging after twenty five years of service as a Explosive Technician. Mr. Varnell was a member of the Ellisville Masonic Lodge, Post # 161 and the Laurel Shriners Club. He was a member of the Baptist faith and attended the Evergreen Baptist Church in Seminary.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Johnny Varnell, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Ercell Lott Varnell of Collins; his mother, Doris Avara Varnell of Granbury, Texas; two daughters, Erica Varnell Thibodeaux and her husband, Craig of Scott, Louisiana, and Leah Varnell Thibodeaux and her husband, Sterling of Weatherford, Texas; one son, J. P. Varnell of Laurel; three step daughters, Cindy Sasser of Collins, Lisa Sasser Tingle and her husband, Greg of Beaumont, and Kristi Redmon Grimes and her husband, James Hunter of Laurel; one step son, Greg Sasser of Seminary; one sister, Sandy Varnell Copeland and her husband, Clyde of The Woodlands, Texas; one brother, Tony Varnell and his wife, Karen of Granbury, Texas; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
