Rachel was born on January 23, 1934 at Kelly Creek in Seminary, Mississippi to I.W. "Ike" and Amanda Sanford Abercrombie. She attended Seminary High School, where she excelled on her high school basketball team. Rachel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She retired from Masonite Corporation after twenty-five years of service. After her retirement, she worked as the office manager and hostess for Billy M. Rachel was an outstanding cook and in her kitchen two signs proclaimed: "Rachel's Kitchen, where Southern Hospitality is Alive and Well" and another one was "Families Gather Here". She epitomized both of these quotations during her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, I.W. "Ike" and Amanda Sanford Abercrombie; her husbands, Charles "Pop" Cook and Jack R. Knight; three sisters. Christine Abercrombie Rogers, Bernice Abercrombie Jones, and Hester Abercrombie Quick; and three brothers, Hubert Abercrombie, Tom Abercrombie and Jimmy Abercrombie.
Survivors include two sons, William "Bill" Keys, and his wife, Dawn of Leakesville, and Don Keys, and his wife, Lisa of Collins; one daughter, Keita Keys Harris, and her husband, Verne of Brandon; one brother, Hardy Abercrombie, and his wife, Katherine of Collins; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Willow Grove Baptist Church, 979 Willow Grove Church Road, Collins, Mississippi, 39428.
