Rachel Nell Grantham King

(September 1, 1943 – November 10, 2022)

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Salem Baptist Church in Collins for Rachel Nell Grantham King, a native of Collins, Mississippi, and formerly of Friendswood, Texas, who went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at her home in Baytown, Texas. She was 79.

Bill Norris and Dennis Campbell will officiate the services with interment to follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Salem Baptist Church, 338 Salem Church Road, Collins, Mississippi.

Mrs. King was born on Wednesday, September 1, 1943, in Laurel, Mississippi, to Albert and Olivia Rogers Grantham. She was raised in the Salem Community of Collins and graduated from Collins High School in 1962. She worked for 18 years as a library clerk at Helen Hall Library in League City, Texas, until her retirement in 2011. She enjoyed fostering a love for reading. A lover of tea parties and treasure hunting, she also enjoyed cooking for and entertaining family and friends in her home. She was a lifelong devoted Christian and an active member of Wooster Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Charles L. King; her parents, Albert and Olivia Rogers Grantham; her brothers, A.G. Grantham, Roger Grantham, and Charles Grantham; and her sisters-in-law, Juanita Grantham and Barbara Grantham.

She is survived by her son, Charles L. King, Jr. (Carmen) of Baytown, Texas, who was the joy of her life; her sisters, Janie Laetare and Katherine Blades; sister-in-law, Helen Grantham; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.
