SFC Robert Forrest Sullivan Jr. "Pop"

November 20, 1948 – June 7, 2020

Robert Forrest Sullivan Jr., age 71, of Mount Olive, passed away on June 7, 2020 at his home after a lengthy heart disease battle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Gertrude Sullivan; and his sisters, Betty Dye, Barbara and Mary Sullivan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Palmer Sullivan; 5 children, Michelle (Jeff) James of Lumberton, Tommie Lin Petersen of Seminary, Christi Lou (Bob) Powell of Mt. Olive, Bubba (Whitney) Sullivan of Lumberton, and Polly (Jack) Jackson of Mt. Eden, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Justin James, Chris, Blain (Katelyn), Michael, Jr, and Thomas Petersen, Morgan Powell, Ty and Ryleigh Sullivan, and Jessie, Alex, and Francis Jackson; 3 great grandchildren, Kasielynn and Brentlee Petersen and Skylar "Tootie"

He was a native to Petal, MS and he served 23 years in the U. S. Army. He joined the Army at age 17. During his military career, he served the United States as an infantryman, Green Beret, paratrooper, ranger, and recruiter. He served 3 tours in Vietnam and served in Desert Storm. He retired from the Army in 1995 after suffering a heart problems in 1994. Throughout his career he received many, many medals and awards including a Silver Star, 5 Bronze Stars, 4 Air Medals, and a Purple Heart.

He served as a deacon at Calhoun Baptist Church in Hot Coffee, MS and was a current member of Leaf River Baptist Church in Collins, MS.  He also traveled the state and the country with the Covington County Disaster Relief team and later joined the Disaster Relief Task Force from Jackson.  He was a strong supporter and volunteer for the Hot Coffee Hunts for Heroes. He SERVED his country, family, and community well. He always believed in "giving all you can" and it was evident that he lived up to those words in his daily life.

He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed doing many things including, mechanic work, constructing things, farming, driving big trucks, fishing….there wasn't anything that he couldn't do… but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and going to church.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 12, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Billy M.
King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3302 Highway 49, Collins, Mississippi.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home followed by graveside service at Lebanon Baptist Church, 97 Lebanon Church Rd. Seminary, Mississippi, with military rites.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chuck Melvin, John Hart, Jeff Keeton, Gary Stewart, Jim Devlin, and Wayne Roberts.
