Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins for Sammie Glen Hooks, 86 of Collins, who passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, MS.
Brother Jamie Coulter will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Williamsburg Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3202 Highway 49, Collins, MS.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Sasser, Kenneth Nelson, Asa Cluff, Gage Smith, Austin Craft, Ashton Jones, Shawn Cluff, and Jude Miller.
Sammie was born and raised in Lone Star, Mississippi. He was married to Winnie Mae Sanford Hooks for sixty-seven years. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to fly planes. He worked all over the world as a welder including the Middle East and the Alaskan Pipeline. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was a man of great faith and would always say "Take the Lord with you." He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Sanford Hooks; daughters, Sandra Ann Hooks Ross and Anita Gail Hooks Cluff; father, Bardy Hooks; mother, Beulah Smith Hooks; brother, Tony Fred Hooks; sister, Connie Whitacre; brother-in-laws, Steve Whitacre and Edward William Chonko.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Hooks of TX, Tammy Hooks of Collins, Kathy Hooks Thornton of Collins; sister, Bobbie Chonko of OH; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Chanel Nelson, Aaron Glenn Sasser, Kenneth Larry Nelson II, Tonya Leigh Pittman Jones, Heather Brook Sasser McGrew, Shawn Anthony Cluff, Asa Chandler Cluff, Carol Lynn Pittman Howze, and Gage Smith; twenty-four great-grandchildren, Trinity Walker, Samantha Walker, Patricia Noel Sasser, Cooper Abplanalp, Collins Abplanalp, Hero Abplanalp, Corbin Nelson, Layla Nelson, Teagan Nelson, Addison Nelson, Austin Craft, Ashton Jones, Kaitlyn Jones, Mackson Jones, Hudson Gentry, Fox Delk, Shane Cluff, Cash Cluff, Jayden Harrison, Jasper Harrison, Trent Howze, Trevor Howze, Bentley Smith, and Kyler Smith; four great-great grandchildren, Carter Craft, Zayden Craft, Oakland Craft, and Ashtin Blaire Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
