Sammy Howard Ward

(February 18, 1954 – August 25, 2023)

Sammy Howard Ward, 69, of Collins, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Covington County Hospital. At his family's request, no services will be held. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Sammy was born on February 18, 1954, in Meridian, Mississippi, to Charley and Doris Ward. He was a 1972 graduate of Collins High School. Mr. Sammy worked for many years as a truck driver for various gas and oil companies, and, in his last year of service, he was honored as Driver of the Year for Shell Oil in 2017. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, "PawPaw", uncle, and friend, and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Janell Ward; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Ward; and his mother-in-law, Hazel Hyde Hill.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Pamela Hill Ward of Collins; sons, Frank Ryan (Penny) of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Todd Ryan (Leigh Ann) of Oxford, Mississippi; brother, Mike Ward (Donna) of Collins; brothers-in-law; Henry Hill (Elaine) of Port Saint Joe, Florida, and Stevan Hill (Charlotte) of Santa Monica, California; sister-in-law, Taska Ventura (Frank) of Sugarland, Texas; a longtime family friend, Ricky Smith of Gulfport, Mississippi; niece, Amy Ward Cagle (Kevin); nephews, Scott Ward (Ann), Joseph Tipton, Scott Hill (Karen), Jason Hill (Marissa); grandchildren, Blake (Kacie), Jake (Candice), Courtney, Calee (Noah), Kaylee, and Acy; a great-grandson, Houston; great-nieces and nephews, Ayden, Saylor Grace, Maddie Sue, Monica, and Arden; and many extended family members and friends.
