Sarah Merle Easterling's Obituary
Sarah Merle Delk Easterling, 89, of Mount Olive, MS died Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. She was born Saturday, October 15, 1927 in Jones County, MS.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 29, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel of Mount Olive in Mount Olive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Colonial Chapel of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, MS. Burial will follow in McNair Cemetery in Mount Olive, MS. Bro. Jeff Easterling and Bro. Reese Douglas, Jr. will officiate. Billy M King Colonial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (601)765-1010
Merle was a member of Sunset Missionary Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and also she had served many years as church pianist at Cooley Springs Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Covington County Genealogical and Historical Society and the Easterling Genealogical Society. She had helped record burials in two Covington County Cemetery books. She was a quilter and her teacakes were a favorite with her family. Neighbors will remember her beautiful yard full of flowers and her willingness to share her plants with others.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Johnny Ralph Easterling, her father, Buford Delk and his second wife, Mattie Rogers Delk, infant son Johnny Ralph Easterling, Jr., brothers, Randolph Delk, Howard Delk, Elton Delk, sisters, Frances Rosenbarger, Bonnie Lyons, Venetia McBeth Finch Hood, and son-in-law, Richard Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, June Easterling Ellis (Bobby), Mount Olive, MS, daughter, Janet Easterling Smith, Lucedale, MS, son, Dwight Easterling (Cheryl), Mt. Olive, MS, son, Randy Joe Easterling (Georgia), Seminary, MS, grand children, Nathan Ellis, Paul Ellis, Amy Ellis, Brandy Persons, Jennifer Thornhill, Joan Easterling, Tracey Lott, Joel Easterling, Jeff Easterling, Jonathan Easterling, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons, sister, Carmen Simmons, Hattiesburg, MS, sister, Nell Cox, Hattiesburg, MS.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Ellis, Paul Ellis, Joel Easterling, Seth Ellis, Jonathan Easterling, Cory Ellis.
