S.F. Carlisle, Jr. Obituary

Born March 31, 1930, in Newton, MS, S. F. Jr. was the last survivor of nine children of S. F., Sr. and Marjorie Harrelson Carlisle.

Following graduation from High School, S. F. was attending his second year of college when he was called to active duty with the 31 st Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict.  Following his discharge, he entered the Southwest School of Journalism and Printing in Dallas, TX. After graduation, joined the staff of The Collins-News Commercial newspaper in Collins, MS.

On August 23, 1953, S. F. and Hazel Roberts were joined in marriage.  They resided in Mt. Olive and Collins until 1958, when he was appointed as a State Farm agent in Hattiesburg. They resided and raised their five children in Oak Grove.  In 1975, he accepted a position as District Sales Manager for State Farm Insurance Companies where he served agents in South Mississippi until his retirement in 1996.

Active in civic and community affairs, S. F. served as President of Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Sales & Marketing Club and Optimist Club.  Professionally he served as President of the Hattiesburg, Miss. and the Mississippi Underwriters Association.  He was selected by the state association members as their 'Underwriter of the Year' in 1970.   Active the Oak Grove School System, he served a six-year term on the Lamar County Board of Education.

Nothing brought more joy and fulfillment to S.F. than serving the Lord through the ministries of his church – some 42 years as an active member of Main Street Baptist Church, and since 2001 as a founding member, elder and leader at Willow Pointe Church in Hattiesburg.  In his later years he authored the two book, Bites of Bread, a Bible Reading Guide, and Why Ask God Why? Net proceeds from these writings go to support the ministries of Willow Pointe Church.

S.F. and Hazel were married for more than 61 years until she went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2014.  After her death, he was in the loving care of his children, grandchildren, and caretaker Cearl Martin, along with beloved members of her Caretaker Group and family.

S.F. Carlisle was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather in a family unit where love has always been evident.
