Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Billy M. King Funeral Home in Collins for Steve Kirkland, 73 of Collins, who passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Covington County Hospital in Collins, Mississippi.
Reverend Gary Roberts will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Collins City Cemetery in Collins with military rites at graveside.. Special music will be provided by Reverend Gary Roberts. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Billy M. King Funeral Home, 3202 US 49, Collins, MS.
Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
Steve was a retired oilfield driller for Mallard Drilling Company. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1970 till 1972 during the Vietnam War. Steve loved hunting, fishing and cooking for his family, especially using recipes he looked up online or made up himself. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Kirkland; his parents J.P. Kirkland and Margaret Rogers Kirkland; and one sister, Ethel Kirkland Culpepper.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Freda Thronson Kirkland of Collins, one daughter, Sarah Kirkland Grubbs (James) of Gulfport; one brother, Mike Kirkland (Diane) of Collins; three sisters, Becky Kirkland Riley (Paul) of New Hebron, Jane Kirkland of Bassfield, and Kay Weekly of McDavid, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews.
