Steve Oliver Scruggs

(November 8, 1955 – April 23, 2023)

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Station Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Collins for Steve Oliver Scruggs, 67, of Ellisville, who passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his residence.

Bro. Dalton Walker, Bro. Clay Williamson, and Bro. Stephen Bush will officiate the services with interment to follow in the Station Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Congregational music will be led by Bro. Tim Ellzey and Ms. Wryn Morgan. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Station Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 581 Station Creek Road, Collins, MS 39428.

Pallbearers will be Trey Roberts, Elijah Roberts, Joseph Roberts, J.J. Yates, Hayden Daughdrill, and Chad Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Scruggs, Jeremy Scruggs, Stephen Bush, and B.J. Walters.

Mr. Steve was born on November 8, 1955, in Ellisville to W.J. and Elouise Scruggs. He graduated from South Jones High School in 1974 and married the former Kathy Watts on March 14, 1975. A truck driver and welder by trade, he loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with his community. He faithfully served as song leader, adult Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent at Station Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He is lovingly remembered as a humble man who loved God, church, and family, and he will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jefferson "W.J." and Elouise Herrington Scruggs; a brother-in-law, Ken Watts; a niece, Emily Shows; and a great-nephew, Cameron Walters.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Kathy Watts Scruggs of Ellisville; daughters, Amy Scruggs Yates (Shannon) of Collins, Jana Scruggs Roberts (Troy) of Ellisville, and Kara Scruggs Yates of Collins; brother, Jerry Scruggs (Sylvia) of Ellisville; sister, Brenda Scruggs Bush of Ellisville; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
