Sylvia Strickland Flynt, 84 of Mount Olive, Mississippi passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was born on Wednesday, September 28, 1938, in Kosciusko, Mississippi.
Mrs. Sylvia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Olive, Mississippi. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
She was a graduate of Kosciusko High School. She then continued her education at Mississippi University for Women and Draughon's Business School in Jackson, Mississippi. She then obtained her Master's degree in Library Science at the University of Southern Mississippi. She began her teaching career at Mount Olive High School where she taught for twenty-eight years. She retired from Collins High School after completing five more years of teaching.
She enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers, cooking, family gatherings, driving her dog "Buddercup" around town, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all of her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Thomas Edward Flynt; father, Earlie E. Strickland; mother, Bertress Evans Strickland; and sister, Bethany Strickland.
Survivors include her two children Thomas A. Flynt of Starkville, MS and Bethany Flynt McGuire (Jerry) of Magee, MS; two grandchildren, Taylor McGuire of Magee, MS and Logan McGuire of Magee, MS; one sister, Annette Strickland of Mount Olive, MS; and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 205 South 4 th Street, Mount Olive, Mississippi, and on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Mount Olive City Cemetery in Mount Olive, Mississippi. Bro. Joe Gardner will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mount Olive is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031
Pallbearers will be Trey Eubanks, Devin Davis, Peyton Eubanks, Josh Hux, Brody Boykin, and Riley Brown.
