Teresa Ann "Sam" Layton

(October 8, 1958 – May 4, 2023)

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Teresa Ann "Sam" Layton, 64, of Mount Olive, who passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at her residence. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Layton, affectionately known as "Sam", was born on October 8, 1958, in Collins, Mississippi, and stayed in Covington County for the majority of her life. As an adult, she worked as a school teacher, bus driver, and secretary. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, and she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Homer McLemore; mother, Ruby Lee Clark Chisholm; brothers, Tony McLemore and Toby McLemore.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jimmy C. Layton of Mount Olive; children, Tasha Kirkland (Jeffery) of Collins and Joshua C. Layton (Caitlin) of Hattiesburg; grandchildren, Trent Kirkland, Kenzie Kirkland, Abella Layton and Zaiden Crosby; sister, Tonya Walker (Timmy) of Collins; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
