Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Martinville (Simpson County) for Verna Lee Shows Bryant, 93 of Collins, who passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Arrington Living Center in Collins.
Reverend Chad Cummins will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Martinville. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be David Purvis, Will Purvis, John Bryant, Andrew Bryant, and Jason Ryder.
Mrs. Bryant was born on November 25, 1926 in Martinville, Mississippi to Arthur L. Shows and Ollie Layton Shows. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Bryant was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and working in her flower beds.
Mrs. Bryant was a Christian and a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Seminary. She was active in the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bryant was also a member of the Shadrack Rogers Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Collins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur L. and Ollie Layton Shows; and her husband of sixty-three years, Jack Ferrell Bryant.
Survivors include one son, David Bryant, and his wife, Sue of Orlando, Florida; one daughter, Jacquelyn Bryant Purvis, and her husband, David of Starkville; five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Ryder (Jason), Will Purvis, Kris Bryant Vincent (Luke), John Bryant (Reagan), and Andrew Bryant; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Layton Ryder, Cathryn Rose Ryder, and June Vincent; and a host of other family members and friends.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Evergreen Baptist Church, 65 Evergreen Church Road, Seminary, Mississippi, 39479 or to the Covington County Chapter of the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1562, Collins, Mississippi, 39428.
