Private Graveside Services will be held for Woodard E. "Woody" Garrick, 93 of Seminary, who passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020 at The Claiborne in Hattiesburg.
Brother Jason Cox will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Bullock Cemetery in Seminary. Billy M. King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins will be in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews, Bubba Peden, John Anderson, Scott Peden, Chris Peden, Alex Garrick, Billy Karolyi, and Don Karolyi. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Dossett, Jerry Wallace, Ed Hunt, and Rick Venable.
Woody enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1945 on his 17 th birthday. After being discharged, he returned to Sanford and completed high school in 1947. In June of 1947 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he remained until his retirement as a Master Sergeant after twenty years of service. He and Margaret Karolyi were married on September 9, 1947. During his years in the Air Force he was assigned to various bases stateside and overseas. In most cases, he was accompanied by his wife and children. After his retirement he worked in the construction field in Houston, Texas, the Ambulance Service at Covington County Hospital, and Johns Funeral Home in Collins. During the time he worked in the ambulance service, he was the EMT driver and his wife, Margaret was his boss, since she was a nurse. His final job before complete retirement was transporting bodies for various funeral homes. He was a member of the American Legion and the Sanford Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Karolyi Garrick; his parents, Earl Garrick and Irene Dossett Brock; a grandson, Rex Garrick, Jr.; his step mother, Eunice Garrick; and his siblings, Jack Brock, Betty Boyette, Peggy Provience, Betty Sue Hopful, Brewer Garrick, Larry Garrick, and Rhett Garrick.
Survivors include one son, Rex Garrick Sr., and his wife Sherry of Lucedale; two daughters, Patti Garrick Burnley of Minden, Louisiana and Ann Garrick Anderson of North Little Rock, Arkansas; two sisters, Mary Walton of Marshall, Texas and Jane Britton of Brookfield, Oregon; six grandchildren, John Anderson, Margaret Ann Fry, Marianne Faloni, Bubba Peden, Scott Peden, and Chris Peden; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
