Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Mount Olive Methodist Church in Mount Olive for Henry Lafayette Leonard, 83 of Mount Olive, who passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Harriet House in Sumrall, Mississippi.
Reverend Dennis Lewellyn and Rev Jerry Beam will officiate at the services with interment to follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Debbie Johnston, Mr. Randy Williams, and Mr. Michael Gibson. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mount Olive will be in charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Mount Olive Methodist Church, 211 North Main Street, Mount Olive, Mississippi, 39119.
Pallbearers will be Reece Powell, Murphy Powell, Andrew Leonard, Ty Clardy, Drew Kelly, and Kyle Mayfield.
Henry Lafayette Leonard was born on Wednesday, September 30, 1942, in Mount Olive, Mississippi to Sam Leonard and Carmie Sullivan Leonard. He was a graduate of Mount Olive High School Class of 1960. Henry also attended Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. He retired after thirty-two years of service as a cable repair technician for South Central Bell Telephone Company. Henry was an active member of the Mount Olive Methodist Church and has been a member of the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge for sixty-one years. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his golf friends. Henry also enjoyed the Men's Coffee Group from Mount Olive and all the old stories they all shared was a happy time in his life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Leonard and Carmie Sullivan Leonard.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-years, Judy Mayfield Leonard of Mount Olive; one son, Chris Leonard (Leigh Ann) of Hattiesburg; one daughter, Elizabeth Leonard Powell (the late John Powell) of Brandon; one sister, Betty Leonard Brewer of Mount Olive; one niece, Jane P. Kelly (Cliff) of Mount Olive; four grandchildren, Reece Hayes Powell, Caroline Elizabeth Powell, and John Murphy Powell, all of Brandon, and Andrew Christopher Leonard of Hattiesburg; and a host of other family members and friends.
